Andrew P. Selwyn, MD, is a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. He is also a Senior Physician and Associate Chief of the Cardiovascular Division (Academic Affairs) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Faulkner Hospital, also in Boston.

Dr. Selwyn received his medical education at the University of Cape Town in South Africa and completed postgraduate training at Groote Schuur Teaching Hospital in Cape Town. He continued his postgraduate training in England at St. Stephens Hospital, Hammersmith Hospital, and Bromptom Hospital, after which he served as registrar in medicine and cardiology at Northwick Park and Medical Research Council Hospital. Dr. Selwyn subsequently completed a cardiovascular research fellowship and a senior research fellowship at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School and Hammersmith Hospital in London, where he served as senior lecturer and consultant in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiovascular Diseases.

Active in clinical research, Dr. Selwyn’s major research interests include the causes of and treatments for myocardial ischemia, and endothelial function in coronary atherosclerosis. His latest research project is on very early and beneficial changes in the cell biology of atherosclerosis, providing justification for aggressive lowering of LDL-C and novel pathways in cholesterol synthesis. A frequent contributor to the medical literature, Dr. Selwyn is the author and coauthor of numerous original reports, clinical reviews, and abstracts. He has also contributed to more than 40 book chapters and four text books. Dr. Selwyn is a frequent lecturer for regional organizations, as well as national and international medical associations.

Dr. Selwyn is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American Society of Clinical Investigation, the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Intervention, and the Royal College of Physicians (London, UK).
